Meals on Wheels of Central Alabama Wins Subaru Grant

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Subaru of America launched a competitive grant program last year, which was based on the idea of giving back to the American communities it serves. The company specifically selected Meals on Wheels as the beneficiary of its efforts.

The “2018 Subaru 50 Cars for 50 Years Vehicle Donation Program” awarded 50 new Subaru Outbacks to 50 Meals on Wheels programs from coast to coast. And United Way Meals on Wheels of Central Alabama was one of the fortunate recipients. The grant application was rigorous and the competition was formidable. But our local program emerged a winner award, in large part, because of the demonstrated success of the current operation and the opportunity we presented for expanded service with the potential addition of another vehicle.

Meals on Wheels of Central Alabama officially took delivery of its vehicle in a presentation from Mr. Alex Orsak of Subaru of America during the annual MLK Day of Service event conducted by United Way of Central Alabama’s Hands On Birmingham and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. United Way and Meals on Wheels are deeply grateful to Subaru for its commitment to help bring hot meals to homebound seniors and disabled individuals throughout Jefferson County.
